So what is this thing called Keratosis Pilaris?

Posted on

Our skin is our largest, fastest growing, and dare I say, most vital organ. It shelters us from the cold and the heat, plus it keeps us safe from germs and harmful radiation. It covers our entire physique, and it spans across countless nerve endings, all of which tell us about our bodies and the environment they're in. It's our gateway to the greater world, and our boundary to the worlds we harbor within.

When we care for it, it blossoms. When we give it attention, it radiates. It's the only organ that's completely exposed to us, and the only one we allow loved ones to see. It's hardwearing yet delicate, and a sensitive topic for many of us, particularly as it is visible to others. Unfortunately, not all people have perfect skin, as many of us suffer from various skin ailments throughout our lives, some harmless and others overpowering.

For those who suffer from Keratosis Pilaris (KP), the saying 'Beauty is only skin deep' rings true more than it would for many others. The bumps and unsightly marks that KP leaves all over our bodies is a painful reminder that, although beauty is in the eye of the beholder, few would deem their skin beautiful. Perhaps worse still is the thought that the condition would make people feel uncomfortable around us, and possibly even wonder if we are in pain or the carriers of a contagious disease.

KP however, is not contagious neither is it harmful. It develops simply because there is a buildup of keratin (the protein that protects skin from infections and other harmful things) on our skin. The buildup forms a plug that blocks the opening of the hair follicle, and can be mistaken for a rash, goose pimples, acne, or ingrown hair.

There is no cure for KP, however it can be managed well using specific products that target the condition. This is where the 3-step range from Emmaus comes into play. Follow this easy and enjoyable 3-step plan and begin to watch and see as your skin starts a process of rebirth and rejuvenation.

  • Smiling Beads - Our clarifying Body Wash contains Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Pumice Powder, and Sunflower Seed Wax to promote the exfoliation of dry, dead, and dull skin cells, allowing new, glowing skin to surface.

Apply and massage on damp skin. Use a sponge/puff for a deeper cleansing experience. Use daily as your first  step to clear, smooth skin.

  • Touch of Love - Our Mini Towels are thick, large and luxurious, soaked in our proprietary blend of Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Witch Hazel, and Arginine. These pre-soaked towels work even deeper within the skin to unclog pores and to further rid the skin of any gunk left behind.

Gently massage a Mini Towel over clean, dry skin allowing the ingredients to sink in for 2 minutes.

  • Softness Bliss - Our rich lotion protects and nourishes your skin with a combination of Baobab, Sunflower, Coconut, and Grape Seed Oil, while Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid sloughs away dry, dead skin cells to encourage the skin’s renewal process.

Massage gently onto the body as the final step in your body routine. Use daily, or as often as needed.
